I'm just back from my 6-day Paris and Amsterdam trip and I had many delicious desserts and wanted to share it with you hungry girls!
A simple type of bakery I had (no photos, sorry, but it looks really simple anyways) was called pain au chocolat. As the name indicates, this pastry has bits of chocolate inside (a bit bigger than chocolate chips) between many many layers of thin dough, making it taste like a chocolate croissant! It tastes simply amazing :)
Other than the bakeries, cafes are also really good places for desserts. The one I went into, called Ladureé is a very old cafe and that atmosphere was preserved, so it was really nice. I had French macarons and Tarte au citron (Both desserts are at the second photo). The macarons (starting from left top going clockwise) had these flavors: caramel, lemon, pistachio, vanilla. A french macaron has cream in the middle and on the top and bottom are two thick layers that cracks really easily. The vanilla one tasted really good because it wasn't super sweet but you could taste the vanilla flavor very intensely. The other ones were also good, but caramel kinda tasted like coffee. When it comes to the tarte au citron (or lemon pie), I have nothing to say. It tasted really, um, lemony (couldn't find any other adjective) and the dough under was also hard but tasty.
I regret not having creme brulee in Paris, but they have it here, so I guess that's OK.
After 3 days, me and my family went to Amsterdam by train in only 3 hours! I should mention that Netherlands is practically the milk country, any kind of dairy product they have is amazing. The whipped cream I had on top of my hot chocolate was really good, so I brought a can of whipped cream back to Turkey :)
One wonderful dessert I had was the pancake. They are thinner but bigger in size than the ones in America, and they have the material embedded inside them. the one in the picture was an apple one with bits of bacon (my mom ate this one actually). The bacon bit didn't work too well but the apple parts were really good with maple syrup.
On my last day at Amsterdam, I had appelgebak, or apple pie at a cafe called De Bakkerswinkel. It doesn't look too great in the pic (the last photo), but don't judge a book by its cover!!! Its ingredients -small pieces of apple- were preserved and weren't burnt or soggy or unfresh. I think it also had a little bit of caramel inside, so it kept the apple bits together. The dough on the top and at the bottom was also good; it even had some raisins in it! Eating this dessert simply felt like heaven :)
