The Shirataki Verdict
Let me just start by saying that it's obviously not real, calorifilicious fettucine alfredo. That much was apparent from the first bite.
First, the recipe: awesome recipe, delicious sauce, extremely low cal. Legit, an entire bowl of alfredo is 80 calories. I happened to drown my bowl in black pepper, though, so my taste is a bit. Er. Destroyed, at the moment.
Second, the noodles. Maybe I'm just a true carb girl (Hey. Italy's bread and pasta, Korea's rice. I blame genetics.)but shirataki noodles are not my favorite. I sat down with the bowl expecting delicious wonderfulness, and what I got was noodley noodles. Optimistically (see, I learned stuff at Brown) I'm going to say that their texture takes getting used to. Pessimistically, which I shouldn't even bother to think about, the noodles are slippery and sort of like thicker jello. Not really a fan. They smell weird coming out of the bag, but are pretty much tasteless, which is good. I microwaved the noodles extra, hoping to toughen them up so that my teeth wouldn't slice through them quite so easily, but it didn't work.
I'm not going to lie here: I didn't finish the noodles. I tend to overanalyze when I chew (which is why I'm so picky with meat) and I couldn't bring myself to finish it. What I DID do was go back to have another Laughing Cow Light cheese wedge, which are amazingly delicious and available by the truckload at Costco. I need to buy a truck.
So the sauce was good, the recipe is good, but if you're a picky noodle eater, cook with caution. I'm going to try some other shirataki recipes later. There was one for a peach kugel that looked pretty good, and one for a pizza pie. I will be microwaving the living daylights out of the noodles before, I promise.
ON THE BRIGHT SIDE: I figured to combat my slightly depressing noodle escapade, I should let you know about some of my triumphs.
Triumph number one: banana + blueberry yogurt + ice + blender + cup + straw + you = heaven. Do it now. AND because I'm on a Hungry Girl kick, it's only 180 calories. Pretty good for a smoothie. You can even throw peanut butter in there if you want. I love blenders. Don't judge.
Triumph number two: you know those 60-calorie Jello sugar free chocolate pudding cups? Stick them in the freezer overnight and I promise you a delicious chocolate block of frozen goodness in the morning, unless Irene wipes out your power. Absolutely perfect texture. Depending on your freezer, it'll come out too hard to eat with a spoon immediately. Just lick it a bunch of times, and then it turns into this incredible chocolatey sorbet type thing. I almost passed out.
Triumph number three: yesterday we were in the city (for the HP exhibit, nbd...) and we went to Koreatown to find Food Gallery 32. AKA Korean food court of the universe. PLUS they had a Red Mango. Sadly, I did not take a picture of my noodles (hey more noodles!) because I ate them immediately. My sister and I shared a bowl of spicy tofu ramen, and then my aunt randomly had an extra bowl of miso udon and everyone shared that. It was good :)
AND speaking of the Harry Potter exhibit, I would like to inform you that I passed a man saying to his wife, "What is a Hufflepuff?" and a little girl with a Rocketship Potter, Moonshoes Potter shirt on. ("Trooooooolllll in the dungeon!") "Thought you ought to know."
Love y'all, sorry I'm so verbose and unpicturey.
PS the answer is "particularly good at finding."
PPS lame Potter joke: what do you get when you cross the violent instincts of Dark Lord followers and wizarding athletics? Death Beaters. Trolololol.

Low-cal Alfredo?
So I tried the recipe for Hungry Girl-Fredo (only the alfredo recipe), and I was a little nervous, but I thought it turned out really well! It was a little thick to be called an alfredo sauce, though; I also substituted Romano for Parmesan because I like it so much better. But it turned out really well!
In addition to the pasta, I also had some really good chicken, some delicious Italian flatbeans, and some carrots :)
This is so awkward but still exciting!
Hey Hungry Girls!! I got in!!
It's soooooooooooooo awkward that my hotmail listed both Maddy's and Annie's invitation in the junk mail box that I didn't see them!
Sorry Maddy and Annie!
Now I can post here!! This is so exciting!
Yay!!

Je "TIAM"
---

Don't judge a book by it's cover, the same goes for food. I know what you're thinking. GREEN BALL!? Do not be deceived by this piece of deep fried falafel* - it is delicious.
My mum & I came across this delicious little Middle Eastern vendor, Tiam, by chance. We were strolling along High Line in New York, an abandoned old railway that has been transformed into a nature paradise (a must visit for anyone!) & felt like we needed a food boost. As we came down the stairs back to ground level, Tiam was just parked there, as if waiting for us.

Following the falafel starter, there was the wheat pita bread accompanied by a beautifully presented hummus.

The french fries with Saffron oil (more like viscous sauce) was a nice sider to boot.
* falafel |fəˈläfəl| (also felafel)
a Middle Eastern dish of spiced mashed chickpeas or other pulses formed into balls or fritters and deep-fried, usually eaten with or in pita bread.

Dinner #7
The last night! The last dinner! So sad, but so delicious. The appetizers are a spinach turnover, and a goat cheese thing with pesto. So yummy! And then there was another pasta thing. And then a fruit cannoli! And this is the end of my obnoxious food posts, so I hope you liked looking at the food! I miss you all!!!!!
WHAAAAAT
Brunch Buffet
On the last day, they had a brunch buffet! It was super huge, but super good. They had an enormously massive amount of food, and they had ice sculptures and in one of the ice sculptures they had these chocolate covered scoops of ice cream! So cool! (Pun not intended.) Here's some pictures of the brunch.
Dinner #6
The sixth night of dinner! This was another "formal night," which means another "pallet cleanser!" Anyways, appetizer was a mushroom thing...I'm not entirely sure what it was, but it was good. The pallet cleanser was lemon, I think, but I'm not sure. The main course was ratatouille! I love that movie...but it always makes me hungry. xP Then they gave us these adorable miniature desserts which weren't very good, but they looked cute, so it doesn't really matter. And then because it's the last formal night of the trip, they had a parade where all the waiters carried Baked Alaskas that were on fire and it was kind of odd but kind of cool. And then we ate the Baked Alaska, which is three flavors of ice cream with cake and meringue and yumness. :)
Dinner #5
On the fifth night, we went to a super fancy place for dinner. They used way too many plates and utensils, and it was really fancy. The bottom picture is bread, which looks weird but actually just tastes like normal bread. The next thing is another "pallet cleanser" but it was so weird because it was pineapple coconut flavored, but there was a miniature shrimp in it! Whaaaat! So bizarre! So I couldn't eat it, so they gave me a vegetable pallet cleanser? Huh? So confusing. Then there was goat cheese souffle, which was super good. And then a tomato cantaloupe salad with mozzarella cheese, which sounds gross, but is actually good. And that weird picture of what looks like mush is MUSHROOM GELATO. Whaaaat?! My sister got mushroom soup, and on the side they had mushroom ice cream...so weird! And icky! Next was a normal mushroom dish: mushroom risotto, which was delicious! And lastly is dessert, which was a dessert sampler containing (from left to right): rosewater creme brulee, white chocolate raspberry mousse, chocolate mousse, strawberry deliciousness, apple pie, and mint chocolate gelato. Ohmygoodness.
Dinner #4
This was the fourth dinner! The appetizer is a chilled strawberry soup, which again sounds weird, but it's actually good. They had a lot of chilled fruit soups on the trip, which was odd, but interesting. And then there's another caprese salad...those were amazing...I loved them haha. Anyways, dessert is creme brulee! nomnomnom.
Dinner #3
BRITISH TEA
So one day on the ship, they had a BRITISH TEA! AHHHHH! So I went, and it was super awesome, and super British, which is basically the same thing as super awesome. Here are the pictures from that. It had scones, adorable teas, and adorable tiny finger sandwiches and bite size desserts! It was so cute!
Dinner #2
Woohoo! Dinner numero two! This was a "formal night," which means that the dinner was fancier, even though it wasn't really except for a "pallet cleanser." I have a picture of it...it's this tiny little metal thing with sherbet in it, meant to "cleanse the pallet" between the appetizers and the main course. Kind of odd, but very yummy! So on the bottom is a soup, which is a vegetabley soup. Then next up is the pallet cleanser, which is just strawberry sherbet in a fancy dish. Then is pasta with cream sauce and spinach and sundried tomatoes and I think that's it. And then is a yummy chocolate cake with raspberry sauce. Foooooooooooooooooooood.
